The Byre is a stone-built, semi-detached cottage on a working livestock farm in Milton, Cumbria. This converted old dairy sits just two miles from Brampton with exposed crook beams and original stonework that give it bags of character. All on one level (after you climb the entrance steps), it's the perfect spot to explore both the Lake District and Northumberland.
Set in peaceful countryside with sheep for neighbours, this rural retreat gives you the best of both worlds. You're close enough to Hadrian's Wall to practically trip over it, yet far enough from crowds to actually relax. The enclosed garden is completely dog-proof - perfect for four-legged escape artists.

Just be warned: trains pass about 250 metres away, so you might occasionally hear the distant rumble of the 10:15 to Carlisle.
The Byre sleeps 4 people across two bedrooms - one king-size double and one twin. The open-plan living area features a cosy woodburner that'll keep your toes toasty. The bathroom has both a bath and separate shower cubicle, so you can soak or splash depending on your mood. The fully-equipped kitchen even has a dishwasher - because nobody wants to wash up on holiday.
Brampton (2 miles away) offers shops, pubs and essentials. Carlisle is just a short drive with its impressive castle and cathedral. The Lake District's northern fells are within easy reach and Hadrian's Wall sites like Birdoswald Roman Fort (4 miles) make perfect day trips. The Solway Coast AONB offers stunning beaches and wildlife spotting.
The Byre is ideal for families, couples or friends who want countryside calm with adventure on tap. After a day exploring, relax on the decked balcony with a favourite drink.
