Swift Cottage Reviews

Fantastic yet again love it
Stephen
The cottage was clean, and tidy and bed was comfortable. But didnt feel homely and welcoming. There was no welcome pack ie tea coffee, sugar or even pint of milk in the fridge , which after a long journey, cuppa would be nice. Plus as stated in facilities, there should have been dvd player and dvds, sadly they were not there. Plus a lot of maintenance issues needed to be addressed, tie backs, vertical blinds, and outside slabs in garden etc.
Sorry to say we have to give negative feedback. Owner away for the day when we arrived, greeted by another guest. No welcome pack or information of any kind or guest book for comments etc. Red hot day and cottage stifeling, had been shut up for a week as empty. Greeted by very large cobwebs and spiders in loungedining area and bathrooms, especially bad around coffee table, got a vac next day and removed them ourselves. Cooker unusable and dangerous as grill element hanging down, dirty utensils in drawer, kitchen tap drips. Plug didn't work in ensuite sink. All window frames rotten and loose, beading to patio door in bedroom missing, very dangerous as glass could easy fall out. Front door difficult to lock and unlock. Footings at front of lounge sinking, some bricks even missing. Flags on patio very loose and uneven, we all tripped over them. Drains blocked, so big puddle on patio following rain. Each morning lounge carpet covered in slugsnail trails. Very poor maintenance to whole cottage, whole site probably, as guttering to next door almost fallen off and leaking. On a plus side garden was safe for the dog who enjoyed it. We will not visit again. Very disappointing, not the usual standard we expect from Sykes.
This was our sixth time at the cottages and we have been in 3 different ones, each has been as good as the last. We will be again booking for this year, we have absolutely no complaints and our dogs love the gardens and area. Cottage owners cannot do enough for you
Another fantastic stay at Milton mains. Really lovely owners, Mabel is a very genuine caring person who makes everyone welcome. Bed in swift was super comfy and there was plenty of hot water for the large bath tub. Genuinely dog friendly properties too!
Very clean and tidy, well furnished, well equipped. Maintenance needs a little attention, but would not stop us from visiting again. Already booked this cottage for next year.
While the cottage was clean, it did look a little run down, some of the equipment was a bit lacking, the onoff switch on the oven was broken and while the owner did give us a pair of pliers to turn it on and off it was difficult to tell what temperature it was on. All the carpets could do with replacing or at the very least a good clean, the flooring in the bathroom was cracked and lifting which could have an adverse effect on the whole of the bathroom if left.

This was a very comfortable and well furnished cottage let down by poor maintenance The blinds in the living room were broken and the washing machine and dishwasher were badly fitted There werent enough side plates if you were using the dishwasher should be 8 not 6 also no coffee percolator which was surprising as coffee is now more widely drunk than tea! there were 2 teapots The wardrobe in the double bedroom had a hinge hanging off and the floor in the main bathroom was torn near the shower where there was damage to the sub floor The rear garden fence was leaning and propped up with stays and the grass was overgrown We were also surprised that there wasnt any visitor book or welcome sheet with local information such as nearest doctors, supermarkets and places to eat We would have given this 5 stars if not let down by poor maintenance
5th time for us at the cottages, beautiful area and the owners are fantastic, ... 5th time for us at the cottages, beautiful area and the owners are fantastic, nothing is too much trouble Will be booking again for next year
A very warm and friendly welcome from the owner on arrival. Well equipped kitchen and dining area. Comfortable suite and bed, slept well. Lovely enclosed garden to the rear with patio and garden furniture. Log fire with extra logs in a basket. Didnt use it because the cottage was lovely and warm. Easy parking outside door. Overall an enjoyable, relaxing stay. There is however some slight maintenance needed. The patio has some loose and uneven flags which i tripped on a couple of times. Conifers at the front door could do with cutting back to gain easier access. We stayed when the starlings were nesting so ended up with parts of the patio covered in poo, so just be mindful that birds do nest in the buildings, very entertaining to watch though.

On our arrival we had a lovely warm welcome from the owners. Not our first visit to these cottages. Swift cottage did not disappoint, was clean and comfortable and well equipped for a stay away. Great base to explore the surrounding area. If you want to chill and relax you can sit in the big garden which our dog loved. We will definitely be back.
Allison
A lovely property, clean, warm and nicely furnished. Very helpful owner Lots to see and do in the area but also nice to sit & chill in the cottage with the sound of cows gently mooing in the nearby barn.
We had a lovely stay, the owners were friendly and welcoming, the cottage was clean and very cosy with the fire on. Will definitely come back for another visit

A very enjoyable stay in a secluded area. Plenty of room for the dog to run in the secure garden and nice walks nearby.
3rd time this year at the cottages and just booked again for next year. Beautiful cottages and surroundings, really friendly owners absolutely no negatives at all. The dogs love it as much as we do. Central to lots of walks and historic buildings as well as local to town centre amenities.
Love it here
Great stay, very comfy and great location for us and the dogs. However, water temperature was sometimes an issue in the shower and the bath Hot one minute, cold the next!
Really friendly and a great place to stay
We have come home from a 2 night stay here and we were sad we didnt book for longer. The cottage was bigger than expected. Our dog was happy with the enclosed garden. Our daughters loved the hot tub and were in there for 2 hours, I think, Saturday evening. The host was lovely and let us know where she would be if we needed anything. We will definitely be back as soon as we can for more exploring.
Louise
The property was clean and comfortable and the owner was very welcoming when we arrived. However, I think the property is looking a bit tired and could do with some overall tlc. The quality of the finishings are poor throughout and have clearly not been fitted by a professional. Saying that, we had a lovely stay and Im sure others will too.
Miriam
Very comfortable and cosy cottage. Owners are very approachable and helpful. Ideal location for exploring Cumbria and beyond with lots of local walks and great pubs.
Nicola
Fab place, great for dogs, comfortable, well equiped and owners couldn't do enough for us. Only one thing missing, a washing line! other than that the place was spot on and we would deffo book again and recommend. Thank you. Nic, Roo, Will Ty & Nelly dogs!
Robert
The 2 bedroom cottage was absolutely stunning. On arrival the owner who greeted us was very helpful. Advised us on a few things from a distance due to Coronavirus but was helpful throughout our stay if we needed anything. Very clean to walk in to which is important right now with Coronavirus! The kitchen was well equipped. The living area was very comfortable and cosy. The bedrooms were a good size with 1 ensuite and the beds were incredibly comfortable. Our room was lovely with the patio doors opening out onto the garden. The large garden area with lovely patio seating was wonderful to sit out in....the large lawn was loved by our 2 dogs too and very safe as it was all fenced in. All cooking utensils provided so good for self catering. Our only feed back is to check plates, bowls, cups and glasses as we did find mugs and cups with chips in them. Of which we returned 2 of the mugs but found more chipped cups But other than that it's a fabulous place to stay. Some nice dog walks locally too, especially back across the railway line and down to the station...a nice quiet walk. The Duke Of Cumberland Pub is about a 10 minute drive, but highly recommended for meals. We would certainly stay here again!
Fantastic cottage, spacious and clean. Good amenities, lovely large kitchendining roomlounge with log burner you could help yourself to extra logs for 4 a bag and just leave the money when you leave. Our two Boston Terriers loved the big enclosed garden and we loved the large courtyard where you can park right outside your door. Great location to visit Hadrians wall, Gretna Green etc and loads of walks, parks, hills and forests nearby. Great pub serving lovely food, The Howard Arms a short drive away in Brampton and a cracker The Samson Inn in Gilsland where we ate after Hadrians wall at Housesteads. All in all a fab stay, we even asked to stay an extra night and luckily they had availability. Highly recommended.
William
Lovely, comfortable cottage. We were made very welcome, and given information of the area, where to eat, walk the dogs etc. Would like to go again. Enclosed garden for the dogs was great. Plenty of wood left for the wood burner too.
Fab location, friendly owner. Great spot for dogs.
What a lovely couple who own these cottages, nothing was a problem for them. Lovely quiet location with a beautiful garden for my dogs also a huge woodland walk just two mins away. Log fire just set the scene was beautiful. Hot tub was a stone throw away and was bliss. Brampton village is five mins away with an array of lovely quaint pubs and shops. Would defo return Thank you
William

Lindsay

It was Great Holiday The cottage is very clean and tidy. it has installed new electric heating system and Bath rooms were refurbished to the highest standard. It is closer to M6 junction 43. we travelled to Scotland and Lake District from here. Land lady Mrs Ackerly was very organised, When we arrived She wasn't there. But Mrs Ackerly phoned us 3 hours earlier and given clear instructions to us how to getting in the cottage.
Geoffrey
The electrical heating was very good the cottage was always warm, we had a most enjoyable week. thank you
It was a lovely relaxing holiday. It was a good base to see near by places of interest. A good size garden for our dog who really enjoyed herself. The owner Mrs Ackerly is a lovely lady, on our arrival came to see if there was any thing we needed and gave us local information and an I struction of how to use the log burner we don't have one at home. One day of our departure our dog had enjoyed it that much she didn't want to leave as she turned rou d and went back inside. Have booked again for next year at Swift cottage, Milton.
Absolutely lovely cottage, would definitely stay again. Beautiful setting and such a nice, big garden. It was a real shame that the hot tub was really dirty and only one jet worked the summer house was a bit of a mess. Definitely needs to be sorted out so it is as brilliant as everywhere else. No tea and milk welcome pack was a bit of a surprise too but just little notes for improvement and I would definitely stay again.
Michael
The facilities are fantastic and was obvious that when the place was refurbished it was to the highest standard possible. The open fire was a lovely feature and loved sitting there on a night with it roaring away. The garden was fantastic for our two dogs as it was safe and they could not get out. The kitchen was stocked to allow you to cook anything and shops are only a few miles away. I was disappointed that the cottage we had did not have a hot tub and the communal hot tub was filthy so could not have used this during the stay. If you want a hot tub holiday you need to check if the cottage has one or that the communal hot tub is cleaned ad ready for use just a short walk across the courtyard. We would definitely come back to these cottages
Swift cottage is lovely, just what we needed. It was very comfortable and clean and a great base for our trip away. The host is great, and informative. The hot tub was fab, and how we spent our evenings. I was there with a friend and my dog. There was plenty of lovely local walks, Talkin Tarn Country Park was a favourite. The walk along the lake was beautiful, and the coffee and cakes from the tearoom were delicious, it's only a 5 minute drive away from the cottage. Miltonrigg woods is also a lovely walk, it's within walking distance from the cottage. Milton itself is quite a quiet place, and if you aren't into walking there's Brampton which is only a few minutes from swift cottage. There's plenty pubs, restaurants and shops there. The Cranston food market is amazing! I bought lots of nice meats from there to take home. The Bite cafe and gallery was our favourite place to eat out. This was my second visit to swift cottage, and I plan on returning soon.
Patricia
Beautiful cottage, weve been here before and will definitely be going back next year.
Great holiday. The owners of the cottage were lovely and provided lots of info and essentials in the cottage. Only thing that could of been improved was the hot tub wasnt in fully working order. Definitely recommend!
Yvonne
The holiday was superb. The cottage was fantastic and cosy making it feel like our home for the week. The owners were friendly but not intrusive at all the dogs were more than welcome and the cottage garden was fully enclosed so they could run and play. The owners gave us a basket full of logs for the fire first batch free of charge...due to the colder nights we had 4 fires which was lovely. All in all we could not fault this holiday...from the little extras like the loo rolls which make a difference. We are already looking to book again for next year. Definitely one of a kind and firmly recommended.
Andrew
Lovely holiday in a great setting. Cottage was perfect for our needs and Mabel and John were very helpful with everything. Would definitely return.
