Bats About at Woodland Retreats Reviews

Lewis Day
12th August 2025
We had the most wonderful weekend staying at Bats About. From the moment we arrived, it was clear this place was something special. The walk down to the cabin was magical in itself with winding forest paths that led to a beautifully secluded spot where we didn’t see another soul all weekend. It felt like we’d truly escaped the world. The cabin lived up to its name in the best way - watching bats flit overhead as the blood moon rose was an unforgettable experience. The hot tub was already warm when we arrived and stayed perfectly toasty well into the evening, adding a touch of luxury to the tranquil setting.Though Bats About is off-grid, it doesn’t skimp on comfort. There were electric lights (including some lovely ambient lighting), a working shower, two plug sockets for phone charging, and even a built-in hob. There was everything we needed to feel cosy and comfortable, without losing that rustic charm. This isn’t a hotel experience, and that’s exactly why we loved it. It was peaceful, romantic, and totally aligned with what we were looking for.During the day, the cabin made an ideal base for exploring the Lakes, and at night it was a private, peaceful retreat. Lee was incredibly helpful and friendly, offering great information that made our stay smooth and stress-free.We absolutely loved every minute and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Bats About to anyone looking for a romantic, off-grid escape with all the right touches.

A diamond in the rough. Location and views are second to none; a view over the estuary/bay, all while fully encompassed by the woodland. The accommodation is petite and cosy, and had a really comfortable nights sleep. Although compact, there’s enough room to eat, relax and contains everything you’ll need; fridge, spacious shower, single hob and easy to use outdoor flat plate griddle. The owner is extremely welcoming and willing to provide any assistance required. For all intents and purposes we felt we were in the wilderness with no one else around. Not forgetting the really easy to use wood-fired hot tub! Overall a great trip and will be back soon.

Great. Shower kept getting cold randomly but would get warm again. The hot tub needs time to warm up.Other than that it was a great place, great location, beautiful and I definitely recommend it!
